Thinking about Vintage....

This is what I envision when I think about vintage... the everyday people. This is a photo of my maternal Grandparents in the 40's-50's.  I miss them very much... they were such a big part of my life while growing up.  It's too bad that families aren't like that these days.... I have fond memories of them being around - Bubba helping out with house repair stuff and Gramma helping with gardening, cooking, & cleaning.  Spend the nights at their house were always special!  Bubba would let me play with the big block batteries and light bulbs and show me how current worked... Gramma would let me hang out in the kitchen with her....  yes, fond memories!

Current Project...

McCall's 4769 is the latest project I'm working on... I looked through my stash of fabric and found a small printed cotton fabric in just enough yardage to make this dress without the sash.  I have cut out the pattern pieces and have yet to get started actually sewing them together.  I will post more on this project when I get something to take a picture of ... :)



This could work....???

 Thanks to Tilly for posting this on SewRetro... this is Simplicity 7032 and I think with a little altering, this could be turned into the dress from the Psycho movie (instead of the 2 pc suit that the pattern shows).  I will have to keep my eyes open for a pattern similiar to this.... one that is cheap!

Back to having some fun!

Now that the voting formalities are over.... let's "get back in time" again!
I was flipping throught the channels and came across the 1998 remake of Psycho... it was the scene where she is wearing the print dress, below... I really love both these dresses and would love to add these to my list of patterns to make... does anybody have any ideas of what pattern these would come close to???  Or am I going to have to try to create them from scratch??

Do you also remember when women/girls acted like nice proper ladies? And men/boys acted like fine proper gentleman??  Even the risque photos of the pinup girls were done tastefully...  I'm not naive enough to believe that there were no naked photos or promiscuous behavior going on at the time, but it wasn't flaunted all over the place like it is today.
It's time for me to go enjoy my homemade Potato Soup (my Grandmother's recipe from the depression).  It is so yummy and perfect for a chilly day like today!

Inspired by Jackie Kennedy...

This is the very first complete outfit I have sewn in my new sewing space - Thank you my sweet Hubby! The jacket and skirt are from NewLook 6290 and the pillbox hat instructions came from Threadbangers.com.  The material is some kind of rayon or polyester blend and has very small gold threads running through it... I thought it was the perfect color and feel for a 60's outfit. Here is the picture that inspired me... it is actually Katie Holmes playing the part of Jackie Kennedy and I just love the look!
